FOUNDER & EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Tim Mangwedi

Tim Mangwedi is a cultural entrepreneur, with extensive managerial and leadership experience spanning over 30 years in media, marketing & communications, business development & sponsorship. Before focusing on the media content and entertainment space, he assisted in the development of change and communications strategies for various public and private sector clients including SABC and SITA, MTN and Times Media amongst others. In 2010 Mangwedi co-founded CulArt Productions, a specialist project management and art advisory company working in the arts and creative industries in South Africa and internationally. During this period, he was also a Director at DISCOP Africa – a film and television market that also served as a distribution and screenings program aimed at Africa’s fast emerging multi-screen and platform marketplace. This and his love and passion for film, paved the way for the establishment of the Joburg Film Festival (JFF) which Mangwedi founded in 2016 and later, the Joburg Xchange (JBX) content market, which focuses on Africa-Diaspora films & content. The festival, which operates through the company Native Yard, has positioned itself as a curator of premier African and global films, that actively promotes young African creatives. Over and above the Joburg Film Festival, Native Yard has another entertainment media property as the Africa and Middle East distribution partner for Qwest tv, on channel 330 on DSTV.
