Joburg Film Society

The fourth pillar of Joburg Film Festival, Joburg Film Society, aims to foster a vibrant film culture by bringing together filmmakers, film lovers, and industry professionals in a supportive, creative environment. Over the past few years, the Joburg Film Society has hosted impactful screenings, including documentaries and feature films, sparking meaningful discussions about cinema’s role in society.

To build on this success and maintain momentum, the Film Society is a monthly screening event that takes place on the last Tuesday of the month. The purpose of the Joburg Film Society is to showcase a diverse range of films from emerging and established filmmakers, creating an enriching platform for networking, film appreciation, and industry collaboration. Titles are announced ahead of time, and some of screenings are treated as previews of films not yet released in theatres or on digital platforms within South Africa. Each event offers a thought-provoking, post-screening discussion with a member of the film team such the director, screenwriter, producer, and actor, or industry professional, including critics, or a subject expert, providing the audience with a unique opportunity to engage directly with the creators.
